The Legal Bloodline - Just A Legality
By Carolyn Lonergan of Allbiz4me
My grandmother always told me that curiosity killed the cat because I was forever asking questions and investigating what was going on around me! So what do you do when you grow up? You go to college and get a degree and a license to be nosey! At least that way I can get paid for it! I did go to college and earned 3 law degrees. One as a Legal Investigator and one as a Parallegal, the third is a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Law was my major and psychology my minor. It wasn't until I was in college that I did research on my family tree and found out that the old stories I had heard growing up were true! Law, and the study of law is in my blood! You see I am the 9th generation, granddaughter of a rather famous lawyer, professor, and Englishman, Sir William Blackstone. He wrote the books that many of our laws derive from. He was the first person to actually teach the law in England. He even corresponded with Thomas Jefferson from what I am told. Now finding out that I have this in my family tree was no small matter, after all I had to live up to his reputation and do well in my studies, right? I did! I graduated with honors, Dean's List, and President's List all the way. Made my older kids nuts because if mom could make straight A's that meant they had to too! I did work as a parallegal for a while in our local public defenders office and have worked for bondsmen and done many freelance investigations. I enjoy doing research, to me it is like putting a puzzle together and finding that last piece always gives me great satisfaction. I have many firends in the legal field from police officers to lawyers and judges. I know it may seem like our justice system is broken at times, but we can always get in there and roll up our sleeves and inact new laws. We are in a FREE country! In God We Trust. There are only four books written about Sir William Blackstone and I happen to own three of them. The Blackstone Commentaries are still in print and you can usually find a copy of them at any law library. I hope one day to be able to travel to Oxford, England and visit the instituion where he taught the law. When I do I will be sure to share pictures with all of you!
